Imago Dei is latin for “Image of God”. As Christians, we believe we were created in the image of God.

Genesis 1:27 says “So God created human beings[a] in his own image. In the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.”

One of our goals here is to help believers realize that they are made in the image of God, discover their identity in Christ, and live the life designed by the Creator of the universe.

Scripture is full of passages related to who we are as God’s creation, and one of the most important, foundational steps is to bring these truths into our hearts. What we believe, we will live. So coming into the knowledge of our identity, and then applying these truths to every facet of our life; whether in health, relationships, finances, or even rest, will bring about the lasting changes that we are wanting to see.

Psalm 139:14 says “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” This is such a great chapter to study if you want to learn who God has made you to be, I highly encourage it.

Jeremiah 1:5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart.”

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; 20 you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your bodies.”

1 John 3:1 “See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!”

I know any theologians reading this will discredit me entirely for taking some of these verses out of context, but sometimes you have to make use of scripture for uplifting purposes!

If you are in Christ, there is no shame, no guilt, no condemnation; there is freedom, joy, love, and forgiveness. Life is hard, and all of us have lived with incidences beyond our control that shape our lives, beliefs and habits. If you are sick, overweight, depressed or whatever else, it is likely not because that was a goal in your life. These things don’t happen overnight and they certainly aren’t reversed overnight. So we at Imago Dei Health want you to experience freedom in your life, no matter what you are going through. But we even more want you to experience freedom in the physical limitations that are holding you back.

God has called us to leave in freedom, not in bondage. The physical bondages in our lives are often the result of an internal bondage. That can be many different things; fear, anxiety, lack of love, depression, negativity, etc… Often the physical manifestations come when we try to cope with unhealthy methods; food, worrying, excessive tv/internet consumption, over-sleeping, alcohol, porn, drugs, etc… The best way I have found to defeat these mentalities is to immerse yourself in the word. Study, meditate on it, declare it over your life. The truth will set you free. This often does not come right away, but make it a habit everyday to come into alignment with who God says you are in His word, and you will walk into the freedom that you have always desired to have.

Now, if you want to lose weight, reverse sickness, or find freedom from mental illness, there are many more articles on this site specifically looking at these topics. You can use the search bar on the right hand side to find what you are looking for. The purpose of this article is to highlight the root of why you may be having these experiences in the first place. If you can win the fight there, in your mind, it will be much easier for your body to follow suit. Health is mindset, not something you are stuck with. You can train your mind to make the right decisions in every area of your life. It’s not easy but if you keep moving forward, you will see lasting change. No matter what you are going through, don’t give up!
